The Doge’s Palace

Next door to the Piazza San Marco is the Doge’s Palace. Venice was ruled from about 400 AD by the Doges. This is a bit of history that I need to research. The palace is where the Doge resided and the Venetian Senate met to make the decisions that made the city a leading power for centuries. My guidebook calls it “the White House and Capital Hill rolled into note building”. The rooms where the Council met and the golden staircase brought the history alive.
