Venice or Venezia
One has seen so many images of Venice in movies, pictures etc that one might feel one knows it. Arriving by train and figuring out how to get on the Vaporetto (public transport water buses) takes a bit of learning but I bought a pass for the five days there. They run frequently, are usually very crowded, but are the best way of getting around. From this viewpoint one gets a real feel of what Venice is like. The waterways are full of taxis, many gondolas (for tourists) and other watercraft. Of course sailboats (with masts) cannot get under the bridges. It takes a couple of days to absorb the history and amazing canals on which Venice is built. Of course I cannot help thinking about how they have safe drinking water, adequate sewage disposal (it was not so in previous centuries) and garbage disposal.
